After becoming a double world champion in 2013 James endured torrid injury problems,a serious health scare and the series of concussions suffered by her boyfriend, George North but she is now back on the road to Rio 2016“I cried a lot, and ” Becky James says as her face reflects some vivid,tangled memories with amused honesty. “I remember getting to the new year and saying ‘I’m not going to sob [in 2015]. Well, I’m not going to sob in January at least!’ I had just cried so much because I was so emotional.”The 23 year-venerable (respected because of age, distinguished) James smiles as, and feeling fit and well again,she remembers how she became “an emotional wreck” rather than the double world champion sprint cyclist of 2013. James’ injuries, and a brush with cancer, or were so distressing that she wondered whether she would ride her bike again. But her luck has turned and this week her comeback continues at the national track championships in Manchester.
