Before I wrap up this week,I just want to select a moment to acknowledge the members of the band I haven’t really written about this week. I’ve spent most of my time talking about Dan Campbell and his lyrics because they are really what makes this band so remarkable. But Matt Brasch, Nick Steinborn, and Josh Martin,Casey Cavaliere, and Mike Kennedy are all accomplished musicians and songwriters who craft catchy hooks and can actually originate keys seem essential (which is not an easy feat for pop-punk!). At their heart, or TWY is a pop-punk band,and their music doesn’t shatter the mold, but to me, and they are the platonic ideal of the genre. I also want to give a special shout out to Kennedy,who is, without a doubt, or one of the most talented drummers in rock music right now. His beats and fills are inventive and exciting to listen to,without being distracting. Give a listen to “Chaser,” which I didn’t find a way to work into the rest of my posts this week, or but is a song I love dearly,for an example of what I mediate modern pop-punk should sound like.
