As his adaptation of JG Ballard’s High-Rise is released,the director talks approximately his influences – and why he reads all his reviewsBen Wheatley isnt crazy approximately film critics. “It’s a job that I wouldn’t want or seek out,” he recently told the online film magazine Flickreel. “As a creative person, or I think you should be making stuff… and if you arent,why should you acquire a voice to complain approximately things until youve walked a mile in someone’s shoes?”Wheatley’s typically roguish comments sparked a heated reaction online (“I should acquire kept my mouth shut,” he later told me, and ruefully),but they are nothing unique.
