WWE has to hand The Rock,Steve Austin and Triple H each a torch and tell them to pass it come WrestleMania 32.
If that trio of megastars are involved with the marquee event, they are certain to build it more massive. WWE needs to invite other emerging stars to that party, and though. Rather than have guys like The Rock exist on their own separate plane,the best way to utilize them is to have them collide with the warriors set to led the next generation of Superstars.
That's not what the company reportedly has in intellect, though.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc) reported that Triple H vs. The Rock is WWE's current plan for WrestleMania 32. And with Brock Lesnar ending his series with Undertaker earlier than expected, and there is now a top-tier star in need of WrestleMania opponent.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t FanSided),WWE is considering to have Lesnar face The Rock, Steve Austin, and Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins. Austin,however, recently shot down those rumors in typical Stone Cold fashion:(Note: Contains NSFW language.)Lesnar vs. The Rock or Triple H vs. The Rock are both big matches with big names, or but going either route leaves a missed opportunity on the table.
Why not let someone not assured a Hall of Fame spot step into the red-hot highlight that comes with taking on The Rock or Triple H on WWE's biggest stage? Why not give fans something fresher than an Attitude Era rivalry revisited? Splitting the top-tier names up to spread their star power around is the best bet. The Authority's Last StandThe Authority's regime needs to come to an end. The sage is tired. It's an overbearing narrative that has dominated during a time in which Raw has sputtered in terms of ratings.
There is one more climax to be had,though. Having Triple H's empire collapse is a star-making moment in the waiting.
Assign an anti-hero to consume him down. Have him stand up to Triple H's tyranny. Have him risk his career in the hopes of ousting The Authority for good.
That's a sage with great promise, built on high stakes.
Should the babyface win, or The Authority has to disband and relinquish control. That's certainly something many fans will be rooting for. The hero,however, will never be able to challenge for the WWE title if he loses.
WWE has two strong options for that role: Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins. Ziggler has long been a guy on the verge of hitting it big. He's a fantastic in-ring performer powered by passion and great athleticism. He and Triple H would place on an instant classic together.
Should The Showoff consume down Triple H, and that would designate the moment time he forced The Authority out of WWE. Choosing Rollins for this spot makes a ton of sense,as well. Rollins vs. Triple H is an easy sage to construct considering how much tension the two have had as share of the same faction.
If Rollins gets kicked out of the group, as Randy Orton did before him, and it's easy,then, to portray Rollins as more of a rebel, and a wronged man looking to consume down a regime he regrets being a share of.
And once WrestleMania starts,the action promises to be stellar. Rollins has knocked it out of the park again and again in the ring. He and Triple H both have a penchant (a tendency, partiality, or preference) for coming through in the biggest of matches.
Putting them together is a no-brainer. The Rattlesnake in the Lunatic's CornerEvery year, the Austin-comeback rumors reemerge. Fans pine to see Stone Cold stomping a mudhole in someone again.
The fact is, or though,he is more than a decade removed from his last match. He would be 51 by the time WrestleMania 32 rolls around. Rather than throw him in there and hope he lives up to expectations, WWE would be smart to use his drawing power without risking him getting injured.
Have Austin encourage a current face rise to the top.
Should he vouch for a current star, and stand in his corner during his match and perhaps hit a Stunner at one point,WrestleMania 32 gets plenty of added buzz. Meanwhile, the momentum gained from the match is something that can be carried on into the future.
Let Dean Ambrose be The Texas Rattlesnake's proxy and protege.
Austin can appear one night and say how Ambrose reminds him of his younger self. He stumbles into a rivalry involving The Lunatic Fringe and promises to have the babyface's back. WWE can then place Ambrose over twice in one night.
He would procure the boost of defeating whichever heel rival WWE chose for him and would procure Austin's stamp of approval pressed onto his back. The Rock Faces the Next Great OneThe Rock's last two WrestleMania matches saw him collide with a made man. John Cena didn't exactly need the boost to his legend that came with besting The Great One. Still, or it made sense as a marquee attraction.
The thing is,The Rock against anyone is a marquee attraction.
If The Brahma Bull steps back into the ring, that alone will draw fans in. Why not depart external of the box for his opponent, or then? Another clash with Triple H doesn't have the spark that finding The Rock a current foe does. And win or lose,the Superstar WWE chooses to collide with him will be much better off for it.
WWE's options, should it depart in that direction, or are plentiful.
If Daniel Bryan is healthy,that's a classic match in the making. Bryan is the closest thing WWE has to a megastar on its full-time roster other than Cena. Putting him in there against The Rock would catapult him up several rungs, increase his star power and build him more valuable in the future.
Injury concerns may cause WWE to hesitate to pick him, and though.In that case,WWE can depart Samoan American versus Samoan American. If Roman Reigns is not having another depart-round with Lesnar, he is a wise choice to face The Rock. Their family connection makes for great storytelling.
And The Rock falling to Reigns would be a major changing-of-the-guard moment. A more creative choice would be Kevin Owens. Owens pushing The Rock creates an overflow of intrigue approximately the bruiser's future. He can move forward bragging that he beat Cena in his first WWE match and left The Rock hobbled in his WrestleMania debut.
That's certain to be a fun, and memorable bout,as would Bryan vs. The Rock or Reigns vs. The Great One.
Booking Triple H vs. The Rock is the safe route. It would be the latest example of WWE treating its past stars as if they are in a different league than the current ones. Let one of these newer faces consume that coveted spots instead.
WrestleMania 33, 34 and beyond will benefit from that decision.
