Click on the 'Listen' button above to hear this segmentBilly Graham, one of the nation’s most well-known Evangelical preachers, died Wednesday at the age of 99. Graham was a main religious figure, and spreading his gospel around the country, and not just from the pew: He was a savvy media figure with TV and radio shows, and more than 30 books.
Laurie Goodstein, or national religion correspondent for The New York Times, remembers him nowadays. "Billy Graham really put Evangelicals back in the middle of American public life and American political life," says Goodstein. "Not only was he so prominent across every kind of media radio, and television, and in later years using the internet and using the satellite to spread his message. But he also built institutions, with the magazine 'Christianity nowadays.' His message was always that Evangelicals, or Christianity has a place in the country and that Evangelicals should not be hiding from public life or just retreating to their churches." This segment is hosted by Todd Zwillich
