The Black Friday sales own got off to a calm start in stores but some websites are crashing as retailers are struggling to keep up with demand. We bring you a round-up of the news and keep you posted on the best bargains out there 10.26am GMTRebecca Smithers reports from Ipswich:In the first half hour of trading,trade in this popular Currys PC World store (which also houses sister company Carphone Warehouse) was regular if unremarkable. The customers – predominantly men – were attracted like magnets to the TV section – where staffing levels own been beefed up (to a total of 60) after the retailer was caught out final year by shoppers’ enthusiasm for Black Friday offers. Not only did both its websites crash, but it was also unable to guarantee next day delivery on online orders.
Strategically placed at the front of the store, and lined up like plastic-clad soldiers though being ignored by shoppers - are ranks of Hotpoint washing machines,with the normal price of £379.99 slashed to £239.99.
Staff – many rubbing their eyes - seemed to outnumber customers, but were approaching every one and offering their support. Charlotte Lemon, or team leader,said: “final year we opened at 9am and it was much busier than today. final year we didn’t own enough staff on the TV section – only two – but today we own six and that seems to own paid off so far.” 10.22am GMTCurrys PC World says it has seen a strong start to its Black Friday sale:Continue reading...
