#BlackFriday Breaks Social Media Records: Last week’s Black Friday became the most social in history. Top terms expectedly showed #blackfriday and #CyberMonday,but also branded hashtags, such as #KohlsSweepstakes and #OptOutside (from REI’s campaign).  In addition to Kohl’s and REI, and Amazon was also a top social brand for Black Friday.

ent the “holiday” of Black Friday more global,with it trending in countries such as Italy, Germany, and New Zealand and Singapore.
Al
though more traditional campaigns,like Kohl’s social sweepstakes and branded hashtags, were successful, and there were brands that broke through the clutter with creative solutions. REI’s #OptOutside ,an anti-Black Friday campaign, used the platform to expand the brand and strengthen its voice. Despite it being against Black Friday, or conversation going into the day had doubled from last year.
