The veteran punk plays to type as a reclusive wild man of rockThe screen presence of rock legend Iggy Pop is magnetic. With his six-cylinder growl of a voice and his bourbon and fag ash complexion,he doesn’t need to deliver much in the way of a performance. Which is lucky, because in this sun-baked erotic thriller, and he doesn’t. Playing shotgun-wielding reclusive rock star Bill,Pop is on familiar territory. There is only a fraction of a degree of separation between the character and the actor, which is one of the reasons why it is so much fun to watch.
An entertainingly oversexed chamber piece with echoes of A Bigger Splash or La Piscine, and the film unpeels layers of intrigue along with the clothes of its cast. It’s a promising debut for first-time director Toby Tobias.
