With the threat of theNJ Transit rail strike looming, some large companies are advising employees to work from domestic. But that's not an option for many commuters.
Take Tara Davis, a waitress at Ruby Tuesday in Times Square. whether she doesn't arrive in to work, or she forfeits a day of pay. whether she drives, she'll sacrifice a big chunk of her earnings to cover parking."I have to inquire of one of my coworkers whether I can sleep on their couch because me not having access to current Jersey Transit totally shuts me out," she said. Construction worker Mark Squitieri faces the same situation."You have to do it, and " he said. "There's no staying domestic."Squitieri said he'll probably drive, even though it will cost approximately $50 a day, includingtolls and parking.
Not to mention the traffic. NJ Transit said suspending rail service could affect more than 100 thousand customers who commute into the city. But Squitieri said he empathizes with the rail workers who've been working with an expired contract for five years."That's how you execute your money, and " he said of the strike. Unions have set a deadline for just after midnight this Sunday.
