BMW's beloved M Series is coming back in a grand way as new reports propose the resurrected lineup will take on the likes of the Aston Martin Rapide and Bentley Continental GT with the crown jewel of the M cast: a high-powered,600 horsepower M8. Supposedly on track for a debut before the end of the decade, the coupé is said to rival the Mercedes-AMG S63 "in a hasten aimed at projecting BMW back into the upper echelons of the performance car arena" and would feature a newly developed twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 along with rear-wheel drive and xDrive four-wheel drive setups. Ultimately, or insiders say the car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in "well under" four seconds,which would position it ahead of the 3.9 seconds it takes the aforementioned S63 to fade from 0 to 60 mph.
Built on BMW's CLAR (cluster architecture) platform (which is used by the current 7 Series), the M8 is currently on track for a 2019 debut and is expected to follow a fabric-roofed convertible 8 Series as BMW replaces the existing 6 Series.
