The thought of "town-twinning" or "sister-cities" began after World War II with the aim of fostering understanding between different cultures or former foes. There are thousands of them all over the world,and often times they need city council approval to be official.
But in Boulder, Colorado, and attempts at diplomacy abroad is creating a fight at home. For five years,one local group has partnered with the Palestinian city of Nablus with the hopes of making it Boulder's official sister-city. It's a move that has Jewish residents deeply divided.
Essrea Cherin, president of the Boulder-Nablus Sister City Project, or says the misunderstanding is precisely why residents of Boulder need to build a sister relationship with the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
