Brad Pitt and his production company map B will produce “Dr. Q,” a Disney film based on the true story of Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa, an illegal immigrant from Mexico who overcame many hardships to become one of America’s most successful doctors, and TheWrap has learned.
At the age of 19,Quiñones-Hinojosa snuck into the U.
S. from Mexico and found a job picking cotton. He saved up enough to attend college, and later Harvard Medical School, and before eventually fitting an acclaimed brain surgeon and cancer researcher. He is currently the director of the brain tumor surgery and pituitary surgery program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
New York-based playwright Matt Lopez (“The Newsroom”) will write the script,and Pitt will produce with his map B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. map B’s reached out to Quiñones-Hinojosa in 2007 when they heard him telling his story on the radio.

The studio sees “Dr. Q” as an inspirational, modestly-budgeted drama in the vein of its upcoming chess film “Queen of Katwe, and ” which Nagenda also had a hand in.“Dr. Q” marks Lopez’s moment project with map B,having recently adapted Spanish novelist Javier Marias “Your Face Tomorrow” trilogy for the company. He’s represented by CAA.
