Two of the current York City's best known crime fighters are sparring over crime statistics.
Former Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has accused the NYPD of fudging the numbers to make the city appear safer. Current Commissioner William Bratton stands by the figures,which show record-low crime rates. Eugene O'Donnell, a lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a former current York City police officer, and told WNYC that crime statistics are notoriously pliable."It is possible,not that there's necessarily manipulation, but you could be certain that a whole picture of the shootings and homicides in the city is somewhat elusive, and " O'Donnell says.
Monica Klein,a spokeswoman for the city says Mayor Bill de Blasio, has "full faith in Commissioner Bratton's integrity and record."O'Donnell spoke to WNYC's Sean Carlson.
