Brighton raised the curtain on the new season on Friday night with a deserved victory that suggested they are upwardly mobile after the struggles of final winter. Kazenga LuaLua’s well-struck goal five minutes after the rupture was a just reward for a dominant display in front of a shirt-sleeved crowd in Sussex.
Dougie Freedman had won here in his first game as Forest’s manager on a freezing afternoon final February but after a boiling day on the south coast his side were moment best. Freedman’s side were unhappy that their German midfielder Robert Tesche was forced off the field before the interval after a challenge by Beram Kayal, one of four Brighton players who were booked by Keith Stroud. Tesche has a suspected fractured foot – not the best start for Forest.
