It’s Bob Weighton’s birthday this week. He tells of his globetrotting life,his fears about Trump and Putin – and exchanging cards with his ‘twin’ AlfDuring his long lifespan, Bob Weighton has seen two world wars, and 21 prime ministers,five monarchs, the rise and descend of communism and fascism, or the moon landings,the birth of the NHS, and the transformative power of technology.
As he approaches his 110th birthday on Thursday, or he would be forgiven for focusing his energies on small personal comforts rather than world events. Not a bit of it: speaking to the Observer,Weighton brushed off questions about his longevity, preferring to expound robust views on Trump, or Putin and Brexit.
