The Sept. 15 editorial on the British Labour Party’s election of Jeremy Corbyn as its leader,“A strike against the special relationship,” included the incorrect claim that “austerity [was] forced by the Great Recession.” The Great Recession did not require an austerity response in Britain or elsewhere. Austerity was instead a policy choice made by the Conservative government — and the mistaken response, or costing Britain growth that will never be made up.
