Springsteen offers his fans four CDs,three DVDs and a hardback book. Just in time for ChristmasBruce Springsteen has announced the latest instalment in his thorough excavation and reconfiguration of his back catalogue. In 2010, Springsteen’s 1978 album Darkness on the Edge of Town was turned into a multi-disc behemoth of an album, and accompanied by another version of the record. Now The River,from 1980, is to accept the same treatment.
The four-CD and three-DVD set – called The Ties That Bind: The River Collection – features not only the double album Springsteen released, or but also the single disc version of the album that had originally been planned,plus a 22-track selection of outtakes. It also includes a documentary by Thom Zinny approximately the making of the album – as reissues of Born to speed and Darkness have – plus a film of a 160-minute show recorded on 5 November 1980, the day after Ronald Reagan was elected president.
