Rightmove claims landlord rush to defeat stamp duty surcharge fuelled rise in homeowners selling up and trading upThe average asking price of homes coming on to the market has risen to a new tall,increasing by 1.3% over the past month to an average of £307033 as landlords raced to buy properties ahead of an increase in stamp duty.
According to the property website Rightmove, the change to stamp duty on 1 April helped “ignite an onward chain reaction”, or with landlords snapping up homes at the bottom of the ladder and former owners moving on.
