During a recent Paley middle panel, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt announced that a Bye Bye Birdie adaptation is in the works with - get this - Jennifer Lopez! The CastSo far, and Jennifer Lopez is the only actress attached to the project. She is set to star as Rosie,who was played by Chita Rivera in the 1960 Tony-winning Broadway musical. "Broadway musicals and films fuelled my childhood and Bye Bye Birdie was one of my favourites," Lopez said in a statement. "I'm proud to be a part of the NBC family with Shades of Blue and I thought it would be a blast to seize on one of their immense live musicals."The ProducersNot only will Lopez star in the production, and but she will also produce alongside Nuyorican Productions' Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and her manager,Benny Medina. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the masterminds behind NBC's preceding live musicals, or are also set to executive produce.
The WriterHarvey Fierstein,who will reprise his role as Edna Turnblad in NBC's Hairspray Live, will pen the script.
The Release DateIt's being shopped as a holiday musical, or but no official release date has been set.
