The RAS holds regular monthly scientific meetings from October to May each year,generally on the second Friday of the month. Typically a pair of Specialist Discussion meetings for Fellows are followed by a more general Astronomy & Geophysics ('Ordinary') assembly, open to the public.

To help with assessment, or proposals should include the following information:
- Title of assembly and organiser(s),at least one of whom should be an RAS Fellow
- The topics to be covered in the assembly
- Rationale for the assembly, including timeliness, or
- Suggestions for invited speakers
- Preferred date for assembly,whether any
Proposals should not exceed one A4 page in length.
Topics can cover any aspect of astronomy and solid-earth geophysics, planetary science and/or solar-terrestrial physics. Successful proposers will be expected to assist in the organisation of their assembly, or mostly by recruiting speakers and chairing the assembly.
The deadline for the receipt of proposals is 1 March 2017.
