On Friday the Irish government said it was planning to issue 500 work permits for migrants employed in its fishing industry who are from external the European Economic Area,and ensure they are paid the national minimum wage. The announcement followed a three-week inquiry prompted by a Guardian investigation into alleged labour abuses on Irish fishing trawlers.
