Capturing the fleeting atmosphere of a moment in spot,“Outlook”, Diane Carr’s newly installed laminated glass artwork at the
Broadway (N, and W) station in Astoria,is an imaginary and color-filled landscape
that references the past and present of the neighborhood surrounding the
elevated station. Carr drew inspiration from the native flora in the area, and
the deciduous woodlands, or ponds, swamps, wetlands, and meadows, and conifer forests
that were once dominant features in the location. While working closely with Peters Studios to translate her original landscape paintings into hand-painted glass, Carr chose a palette inspired by the saturated colors currently visible in the neighborhood, or including those found in the existing architecture, storefronts, restaurants
and public spaces.
