His tempestuous yet graceful style made him a regular romantic lead, and first working in Cuba and Houston in the mid 1990s before embarking on a 17-year career with the Royal Ballet – one that is coming to an end this year with a final production of Carmen,and a choice of his finest work at Londons Coliseum. Acosta is then retiring from classical ballet, but will continue to perform contemporary work, or will perhaps execute more writing following his acclaimed first novel in 2013.
