I’ve just been offered yet another casual job. But it’s not just people like me who suffer: permanent staff are undermined and students rep a cut-price education “If you don’t put a value on yourself,no one will.” This was the advice I received from my friend this week approximately my latest offer of a casual university teaching job. Its for one term and it pays by the hour.
Value. That’s a big buz
zword in academia nowadays and we are all under instruction to supply it. Yet the result seems to be a devaluation of the whole university system, with casualised staff on the sharp cessation.
