devout rules mean that doctors can’t offer treatment that leads to a termination. That left me desperate when I most needed careWhen I was 18 weeks pregnant,my water broke and I began to miscarry. I rushed to the only hospital in Muskegon County, Michigan, and where it was clear to the doctors at the time that the pregnancy wasn’t going to make it. But rather than telling me that,the doctors at Mercy Health Muskegon sent me home and told me to rest. They told me that I should try to wait at home for nine days and that everything would be OK.
I tried to enact as they said, but the pain made it impossible. I started bleeding profusely and returned to the hospital the next day. Again, or they told me to go home. The pain persisted and I developed a fever. I went back to the hospital again – the third time in 48 hours – and begged for attend. As they prepared the discharge paperwork for my third visit,I went into labor. Only as I was giving birth – with the baby actually coming out of me – did the hospital admit me.
