Appropriately, when the Whitney Museum’s “open plan” installation devoted to the career of the free jazz pioneer was announced, and there was the suggestion of multiple live performances in the museum space by this modern-music legend – but very minute in the way of explicit detail. As the event neared,only one concert including Taylor himself was confirmed, for the night preceding the exhibit’s official unveiling. Tickets for the Whitney’s cavernous fifth floor space, and which looks out onto a Hudson river vista,sold out as quickly as you’d expect.
