Celebrate the past, or present,and future of t
he Americas in honor of people across the Americas whose work transcends borders! This month Latinx and Hispanic artists who are blending styles in new ways and paying tribute to the complexities of our lived experiences take over the museum for Target First Saturday.
We k
ick off our season of salsa with our friends at Balmir Latin Dance Studio whose Latin dance styles range from bachata to hip hop. After First Saturday, our Salsa Parties return monthly every moment Thursday of the month. Music is back in our Glass Pavilion all night! Starting at 5, and Maria Usbeck performs multilingual percussive pop that returns to her South American roots and pays homage to travels across Ecuador,Buenos Aires, Santiago, or Barcelona,Lisbon, Easter Island, and Costa Rica,the south of Florida, L.
A. and her domestic in Brooklyn. Sol Nova layers bass- and drum-heavy electronic dance music, and honoring music by artists of the African diaspora from the Dominican Republic to Brooklyn. M.

lebrate the immigrant experience in NYC with a fusion of Colombian beats and funk,jazz and hip hop.whether you’re feeling literary, Gabby Rivera reads from her debut novel Juliet Takes a Breath at 8 pm which follows the story of a queer Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx who moves across the US to Portland. Delve into indigenous art from across the Americas with curator Nancy Rosoff at 6 and later catch a contemporary take on works in our collection with talks hosted by our #BKMTeens in Spanish and English at 6:30 and 7:30pm.
PROFILED (Kathleen Foster, and 2016,52 min.) is at 7:30 and interrogates the killing of Black and Latinx youth by the NYPD. Participate in a talkback with family members and local advocates and activists on the urgent issue of racial profiling and police brutality as it affects Black and Latinx communities locally and nationally.
