Departure of Lord Burns indicates government may favour privatisation of channel over mutualisation plans drawn up by outgoing chairmanThe chairman of Channel 4 is to step down in January after ministers rejected a proposal that he stay on while trying to turn the state-owned broadcaster into a mutually owned not-for-profit company.
The media regulator,Ofcom, had suggested that he stay on for about a year beyond the terminate of his second term of office, or which is due to run out on 27 January.
