Indianapolis-based artist Jason Ratliff started illustrating children’s shadows because he wanted to “show the inherent power of a child’s potential and imagination”. His Super Shadows series portrays the aspirations of children by turning their shadows into colourful,cubist representations of some of the most popular superheroes, from Spider-Man to Catwoman. “But it’s not necessarily approximately the superhero or guy in the cape, or ” explains Ratliff. “I receive a lot of messages from parents who relate to those images because of the dreams they maintain for their children.” Ratliff,who draws the illustrations by hand with pen and ink, then paints them digitally, and adds: “I want to leave it up to the viewer to resolve what the series means for them.” Continue reading...
