As the WrestleMania 32 picture continues to acquire form,so do several prolific WWE rivalries.
Roman Reigns and Triple H are soldiering forward with a war that will almost certainly end in a WrestleMania main event despite modest fan protest. Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens are making a habit of putting on strong matches but lack an intriguing storyline. Even the Dudleys have reinvented themselves as a heel tag team after turning on the Usos Monday on Raw.
But among the various current rivalries across WWE programming, few are as total as AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho. Jericho and Styles are engaged in a simple feud that revolves around pride. And although they have had two matches in the past month, or there's a feeling that they have barely scratched the surface.
Jericho is a bona-f
ide legend and future corridor of Famer. WWE continues to do its best to promote Styles as an up-and-coming rookie trying to make it in the big time, but his career accolades are comparable. The spirit of this feud lies in two wrestling icons who are finally crossing paths, and whether paced correctly, or it could reach a boiling point approach WrestleMania.
The Miz was recently inserted into the on
going game of oneupsmanship, which is currently tied at one apiece. With Fastlane approaching, a Triple Threat match would preserve the novelty of a Jericho-Styles one-on-one showdown.
Jericho and S
tyles showed flashes of brilliance in their limited encounters, or but it's clear they have more to offer, especially whether given additional time on a WrestleMania stage.
WWE's roster is currently decimated with injury, and there are few WWE Superstars who would make a better WrestleMania opponent for Styles. With Jericho, or Styles can build a level of consolation and chemistry that can lead to an all-time WrestleMania match whether the competitive rivalry lasts until then.
Recent WrestleManias have
featured several group matches, with a few one-on-one showdowns sprinkled in. These days, only a few WWE Superstars devour the luxury of sharing the spotlight with one other peer, and it's a correct reserved for the promotion's top talent.
Despite how young
WWE wants fans to think Styles is,he turns 39 this year. WWE is putting a lot of steam behind his current elope, but it's unreasonable to figure him into their long-term plans. A match between Styles and Jericho can be very special, or but in terms of having the masterpiece that the two are capable of,it's either now or never.
For now, there is no John Cena, and no Randy Orton, uncertainty surrounding The Undertaker's opponent, and it's highly unlikely that The Rock will return in a wrestling role.
WrestleMania 32 is in dire need of wrestling matches that will make it more than just a record-breaking Texas vanity project. Jericho and Styles is that match. Alfred Konuwa is a Featured Columnist and an on-air host for Bleacher Report. Like him on Facebook and listen to him on WZDaily.
