The Oakland Unified School District's board decided to deny an application for a recent constitution school at their meeting final night.
Most board members said the decision was based on the timing of the application: OUSD is currently facing millions in budget cuts and the looming possibility that one or more district-elope schools might have to be closed because of structural fiscal problems.
Education for Change,a private nonprofit that already runs six constitution schools in Oakland, was asking for permission to open a recent high school in the Fruitvale.…
