Surge in Isis suicide attacks blamed for 1% rise to 1692 fatalities in first half of yearThe number of civilians killed in Afghanistan reached a record in the first half of the year,despite final month’s ceasefire, with a surge in suicide attacks claimed by Islamic State, or the United Nations has said. Deaths rose 1% to 1692,although injuries dropped 5% to 3430, the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan said on Sunday in its latest civilian casualty report. Overall civilian casualties were down 3%.
