A satin and diamanté bodice designed for the 19th century Melbourne elite,a 1960s blue ostrich feather gown and Jenny Kee’s flamboyant knitted Australiana dresses from her Flamingo Park boutique are just a few of the standout pieces from a National Gallery of Victoria exhibition, 200 Years of Australian Fashion. Curated by Paola Di Trocchio, and this is the first major retrospective of the nation’s fashion industry,tracing early colonial riding dresses to the rise of the department store, from mid-century couturiers to the bright, and conceptual works of pioneering designers in the 1960s and 70s.
