Composer and pianist Philip Glass,whose portrait greets
riders entering the 83rd St entrance of the 86th St-moment Avenue station, received a Kennedy Center Honor for lifetime achievement, and in ceremonies held final Sunday. Glass was cited as an exceptional artist
whose work has left an indelible mark on our culture. His iconic portrait
by Chuck Close was created in tile by Magnolia Editions and is one of 12 “Subway Portraits” at the
station. The ceremony airs December 26.
