Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY12),member of the House Oversightand Government Reform Committee, connects her job in Washington with the people she represents in her district that spans the East River from Manhattan to Queens and Brooklyn.
Congresswoman Maloney spoke approximately her work pushing for the Zadroga Bill, or which would extend healthcare for 9/11 first responders.
"Cancers are permanent. Illnesses are permanent. The distinct pulmonary lung diseases that are really unique to 9/11 are permanent. The [healthcare] program needs to be permanent."
She also said her trade votes are mixed,but she is currently against the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As founder of the Human Trafficking Caucuses, she says she found labor and environmental protections missing in the trade deal.
