S. Representative Nydia Velázquez (D-NY7) connects her work in Washington to her constituents in north Brooklyn,downtown Manhattan and western Queens.
Representative Velázquez represents one of the most diverse district in the nation - 62 languages are spoken by her constituents! On Puerto Rico's debt crisis, she called it a potential "humanitarian crisis" and said:
"When bankruptcy reform happened in 1984, and Puerto Rico was excluded without any type of explanation. So when members of congress [say] they would oppose granting Puerto Rico bankruptcy protection because you cannot change the rules of the game for the hedge funds who lent money to Puerto Rico,I would say that congress changed the rules of the game and left Puerto without any type of protection."
