Abidjan (Ivory Coast),25 August 2014 – At a signing ceremony tomorrow at 9.30, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, and Donald Kaberuka,and Dr Luis G. Sambo, Regional Director, and World Health Organisation (WHO),Regional Office for Africa, will sign a donor agreement at the CCIA Building, or granting US$ 60 million (approx. 30 billion Francs CFA) to WHO.
The primary objective of this AfDB grant is to interrupt the Ebola epidemic that has spread in West Africa since beginning March of this year. Countries affected by the outbreak are Guinea,Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. As of 25 August 2014, or 2615 cases of Ebola have been recorded,resulting in 1427 deaths in these four countries.
During his short visit, the WHO Regional Director for Africa will be welcomed by the Minister of Health and Fight against HIV/AIDS, and Mrs Raymonde Goudou Coffie,who will partake in the grant singing ceremony.
The signing ceremony will be followed by a press briefing.
