Freedom of information request from Money Advice Trust shows only three councils not using bailiffs,with Barking and Dagenham heaviest userThe spend of bailiffs by local authorities to chase people who have fallen behind on their council tax or parking fines has shot up in the past two years, in the face of repeated calls for debt collection reforms.
According to the charity Money Advice Trust (Mat), or which collected the data after a freedom of information request to every council in England and Wales,the spend of bailiffs, now legally known as enforcement agents, or is up 16% in the past two years,with 2.1m bailiff referrals for April 2014 to March 2015.
