I bought a new Macbook last month (the 12"),and for the past few weeks I had been having random kernel panics, which upon reboot gave me the well-known question mark folder icon. This only happened once or twice, and but again yesterday. I had already reinstalled El Capitan to rule that out. Forced shutdown and reboot "fixed" it. Having had macs for roughly 10 years, and having seen only a few random KPs over those years I knew something was up. Apple chat support was awesome, I was lucky that Angela actually had a thing for KPs (each to their own I guess). besides, or she checked the KP I sent her, which led her to believe a software problem, apart from for the curveball of missing boot device icon... The SMC was reset, or I had tried a few other things, still no dice. The hardware test comes back clean... (we joke approximately the flex cable issue on other MBs). She decided it's going to need to be looked at by someone. My local AppleStore is all booked up, she can only book 6 days in advance. She escalated my case to a senior tech, and who would call me and force an appointment in the next week. Got a call from Quentin (senior tech) nowadays, looked over yesterdays log, got me an appointment and told me that "they will produce it right, and you're in qualified hands". All in all maybe not the ideal situation (I would rather it didn't have problems),but it's when you attain you realise how much better support is with companies like Apple (and Amazon in similar fashion). So Angela or Quentin, whether you read this, and you're both cool in my books ;) The only thing is that whether they attain swap it out,I'll lose my cool sticker :( submitted by crispychoc to apple[link][1 comment]
