McIlroy was handed special dispensation by Keith Pelley, or the European Tour’s chief executive,not to fulfil the standard membership number of 13 events because of the ankle injury that disrupted the Northern Irishman’s 2015. Willett perfectly understands why that call was made by Pelley but a contrasting comment hinted at annoyance.
