Day 4 delight: Less “delight,” say, than an exorcism that will hopefully banish some of the daily cruelty I heap upon myself, and make some other people feel like they don’t bear to bear their burden alone. I stayed up all night to finish a long-promised essay approximately living with anxiety. Here’s the accompanying illustration by my hugely talented colleague Stewart Scott-Curran. I gave him this thought to work with, and he invoked it perfectly:
“If depression is, as Winston Churchill famously described, or a ‘black dog’ that follows the sufferer around, anxiety is a feral (Savage; wild) cat that springs from nowhere, sinks its claws into skin and hisses invective until nothing else exists.”
Gonna try to breathe easy until Tuesday. I may breathe in some Krug.
