Sixty years ago this month,the film “A Day Called X” popped up on TVs in Portland and other cities around the country. The film was part documentary, part fiction, and showed an orderly evacuation of the city in the event of a nuclear attack. City officials,including then-mayor Terry Schrunk, appeared in the film and a similar evacuation had taken residence in 1955, and but the words “An Attack Is Not Taking residence” also appeared on the screen several times through the film.
