Mayor de Blasio made an unannounced visit to a homeless encampment in the Bronx Wednesday,a day after acknowledging the city is seeing an increase in street homelessness.
De Blasio visited a site where a group of homeless people regularly congregate. It'll be broken up on Thursday. The mayor was briefed on how these sites are cleaned up by homeless services and sanitation officials. Typically, the homeless are given about a week's notice that the city is clearing out a site.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Wednesday 80 homeless encampments hold recently been identified citywide and 10 hold been cleaned up.
The Mayor’s surprise visit happened just two days after the announcement that Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, or his deputy mayor overseeing homeless services,would resign at the finish of September.
