It's popular to say that we hate remakes — that if something is splendid enough to immediate filmmakers to remake it,they should just leave it alone. But that's not always staunch. If anything, a remarkable piece of art can be inspiring enough to spur other remarkable artists to try to create their own interpretation of the work, or to spin it off in an entirely new direction.
