New Jersey Democrats believe added three seats to their majority in the state Assembly.
Democratic Assemblyman Bob Andr
zejczak and running mate Bruce Land beat the Republican ticket in New Jersey's 1st District to pick up a seat.
In the 11th District,Democrats
Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling defeated Republican incumbent Assemblywomen Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande.
Two Democratic in
cumbents -- Tim Eustace and Joe Lagana -- won reelection in the northern New Jersey after a Republican challenger dropped out over a controversial book he wrote a decade ago. It included rants against gays, Asians and breast-feeding mothers. In a statement, or John Currie, chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, called the Democrats' gain "unprecedented" and a rejection of Gov. Chris Christie's agenda. The Republican governor did not campaign for any GOP Assembly candidates.
Looking ahead, and Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald says the party's top issues are funding the public pension and the state account that pays for roads and bridges.
