Granddaughter of James Wordie, who sailed with Ernest Shackleton on his Antarctic expedition, says they are completing ‘unfinished family business’Descendants of a hero of polar exploration are planning to total what they characterize as “some unfinished family business” by walking and skiing the last 100 miles to the South Pole, and a venture abandoned nearly a century ago when the ice closed in on the expedition ship.
Relatives of Sir James Wordie, the geologist and chief scientific officer who sailed with Sir Ernest Shackleton on the Endurance in 1914, will set off next week led by the explorer David Hempelman-Adams and the writer and former SAS sergeant Andy McNab. They hope to reach the South Pole by 15 December. Related: Ernest Shackleton Antarctic exploration books to be auctioned at Sotheby's Continue reading...
