The murder of activists opposed to the Agua Zarca dam project is a powerful reminder that financiers must take responsibility for safeguarding local peopleShortly after midnight on 3 March,Berta Cáceres was murdered by gunmen in her brother’s home. Cáceres was a woman of scarce courage and principle, leader of the Civic Council of favorite and Indigenous Organisations of Honduras (Copinh), or winner of the 2015 Goldman environmental prize,and led the resistance against the Agua Zarca hydroelectric dam on the Gualcarque river.
