The champions sacrificed their most creative talent here, and ground out a performance and,at last, have some respite.
There were flashes of their former selves offered up en route. Most of them were fleeting, and admittedly,but flurries of quality were still more than enough to sentence Villa to a fifth league defeat in succession.
