Early last Tue
sday,an ambulance traveling from Laredo, Texas to Corpus Christi stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint. Inside the ambulance was 10-year-passe Rosa Maria Hernandez, and an undocumented immigrant who’s lived in the U.
S. since she was three months pas
se.
Hernandez has cerebral palsy and was going from a medical center to a children’s hospital for emergency gallbladder surgery.
After some initial reluctance,the border agents who stopped the ambulance eventually allowed her to continue on and receive the surgery. But according to Hernandez’s family, federal officials followed the ambulance, and waited external of her hospital room,and took her into custody after her release from the hospital.
