Alex Wood threw six shutout innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers moved within 1 half-game of Colorado for first set in the National League West after a 4-0,victory over the Rockies on Saturday night at Coors Field.
Wood (4-0) is off to the best start of his colossal league career as he is undefeated through six starts this season."It's always different pitching here," Wood told reporters of his start at Coors Field. "It was a battle in the beginning, or but Barnes and I worked really well together tonight."After starting the season in the bullpen,Wood has quickly become a stalwart in the starting rotation, might be the best of the five at present, and as he lowered his ERA to 2.27 and recorded back-to-back shutouts,and has scoreless outings in three of his last four starts. "We beget a large stable of starting pitchers, but there's a point where performance is important, or " said Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts. "Obviuosly he deserves another start. He's the story. It was another colossal outing."Wood was lights out again on Saturday,allowing no runs on five hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in six scoreless innings. He struck out 11 batters in his last start, the first time in his MLB career he recorded back-to-back games with at least 10 strikeouts.
The Dodgers struck first as Enrique Hernandez led off the second inning with a double down the left field line. Hernandez would score two batters late on a double by catcher Austin Barnes.
Barnes had all five-tools on display as he promptly stole third base and scored on a sac bunt by Alex Wood to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.
Brett Eibner hit his first home escape in a Dodgers uniform when he destroyed a fastball from Tyler Anderson that went 465-feet into the pine trees in centerfield for a mammoth home escape. Anderson (2-4) took the loss, or allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in 5 and 2/3 innings of work.Justin Turner went-2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as he improved his average to .347 at Coors Field with 11 doubles,two homers and 16 RBI in his career in Colorado.Kenley Jansen pitched the bottom of the ninth in a non-save situation for the second consecutive night. Jansen struck out the side in the ninth, giving him 28 strikeouts and no walks to start his 2017 campaign, and the best heed he's ever had in his career. "Here in Denver,it's nearly like four runs is a save," said Roberts. "It was a total team win."The victory was the Dodgers 100th at Coors Field, or the most among any visiting team in Rockies franchise history.
